A Lifetime of Service

Shane Barker has dedicated his life to serving the people of Summit County. With over 30 years of experience in law enforcement, Shane has held various key positions within the sheriff’s office, rising from Deputy Sheriff to Captain. His extensive experience includes roles in both the Corrections and Operations Divisions, where he has demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to public safety.

Community Commitment

Beyond his professional achievements, Shane has been an active and engaged member of the Summit County community. He has served on the Macedonia City Council for over nine years, where he has held leadership roles such as Council President, Vice President, and Finance Chair. His involvement in local governance has provided him with a deep understanding of the community’s needs and the importance of effective, transparent leadership.

Professional Journey

Shane began his law enforcement career in December 1993 when he was sworn in as a Special Deputy Sheriff. Over the years, he has earned multiple promotions and taken on significant responsibilities:

  • Deputy Sheriff (Nov 1994): Worked in Jail Security and the Patrol Bureau.
  • Sheriff’s Sergeant (Oct 1999): Served as a Custody Sergeant and Patrol Shift Commander.
  • Sheriff’s Lieutenant (Aug 2003): Held roles as Jail Shift Commander and Assistant Patrol Commander.
  • Sheriff’s Captain (Jan 2011): Managed the Corrections Division and served as Administrative Captain, including detail command for major events.

Shane’s dedication to continuous improvement is evident in the over 1000 hours of additional training he has completed throughout his career.

Personal Life

Shane Barker is more than just a law enforcement officer. He is a devoted husband to his wife, Linda, with whom he has been married since 2001. Shane is also a commercial pilot and a Certified Flight Instructor (CFII), as well as an Eagle Scout and a past member of the National Ski Patrol at Boston Mills Ski Resort. He has lived in Summit County for over 50 years and is deeply committed to the well-being of his community.

Shane Barker is running for Summit County Sheriff to restore trust and integrity to our law enforcement. The current sheriff’s administration has faced numerous challenges, including failing jail inspections, multiple deaths, and poor conditions. Shane believes that effective leadership and accountability are crucial for addressing these issues and ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents.
